Princess Alexandra Hospital - Pregnancy/Maternity

The Princess Alexandra Hospital has a renowned Maternity Unit. A self-referral form is available from either Wallace House or Calton Court reception.


The Early Pregnancy Unit provides care and support for women up to 22 weeks gestation who may be experiencing problems in their pregnancy.

Possible symptoms include; Bleeding, Abdominal cramps.

Such symptoms may, or may well not, be signs of a problem with your pregnancy.

You may be referred to the EPU by your GP but we also offer a drop-in and wait system, much like the Emergency Department.

Please attend the EPU no later than 4pm to allow time to register and see the doctor or nurse. We have scan facilities in EPU but it may not be possible to scan you on the same day.

Telephone the EPU: 01279 827107 and we are open from Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm. EPU closes at 5pm and is closed on bank holidays.

The Early Pregnancy Unit is located in area A46.

East and North Hertfordshire Maternity Unit (Pregnancy)

The Lister’s Diamond Jubilee Maternity Unit opened in October 2011 and sees over 5,500 babies born every year. Their aim is to assist you to have a safe pregnancy and a healthy, happy baby.

Early Bird Self-Referral for Pregnancy/Maternity

You can self-refer to the Early Bird service from as early as five weeks pregnant. You will be sent a letter offering you an appointment within 10 working days, please read the information contained within the screening leaflet before you come to your appointment.

Hertfordshire Partnership Foundatio Trust provides support for carers, people who are struggling with the reality of living with long term physical health conditions or who are experiencing low mood and anxiety during or after pregnancy.
